Cadmium Plating
Cadmium is a strong, adaptable, metallic coating that is most typically used in aircraft manufacturing and is the favored coating for salt water environments. Cadmium works well as either the final surface or coupled with paint or a chromate treatment.
Benefits
- Protection against corrosion in salt water environments
- Resistance to mold and bacteria growth
- Low electrical resistance, excellent conductivity
- Natural lubricity providing anti-galling and low friction properties
- Superior solderability
Cadmium over Electroless Nickel
When cadmium is plated over electroless nickel, many of the benefits are expanded. For example, this combination finish provides up to 1000 hours of salt spray protection (when plated over .001″ of high phos EN).
